"Europe - a creative discovery" is a new approach to teaching children about Europe in primary and in first years of secondary school. In the 2007-2008 pilot phase of this European cooperation project, some 14 primary schools as well as 15 artists living in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine were engaged, reaching around 600 children between the age of 6 and 12.
The concept communicates Europe as an exciting and living learning environment for children and adolescents. Artistic interpretations encourage people to rethink and re-interpret Europe and convey a varied journey of discovery through the Europe of the children in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine. "Europe" is a firmly-grounded part of the curriculum of schools in Northrhine-Westphalia. This was taken as a starting point for developing a Europe Kit that can be used during classes to prepare a block period.
In September 2008, our project "Europe - a creative discovery" was awarded with the "Young Europe" award - a special award of the "Jugendkulturpreis Northrhine-Westphalia". The equally culturally and didactically elaborated realisation of the idea of European to be found at all levels of the project is highlighted by the jury.
The workshops can be booked through KreaScientia. The European Kit is available for purchase. We are happy to provide you with advice.
The documentation is part of the Europe Kit and can acquired about via KreaScientia. A book about the concept is due to be published next year.
The founding idea is going to be pursued by a group of artists as well as euregional partners - the creative momentum and inspiration are kept alive through new projects (cf. school trip entitled "what do you dream of?" at the Three-Country Point in September 2008). A website is planned.

KreaScientia developed the idea for this concept in cooperation with the Carolus Magnus Bildungswerk e.V. at Bleiberger factory, Aachen. The link-up with factual knowledge and an emotional approach with regard to the sustainability of Europe was elaborated (theoretical concept), the workshops were closely followed and scrutinised in the development phase (action research), the results being documented.
